Last week we talked about the importance of having difficult conversations and why they are essential to the health of your relationships, as well as your own mental wellbeing and for driving change on a larger scale.
But even with a framework for having difficult conversations, we can still fall short if we do not do the work ahead of time!
Without proper preparation, we may find ourselves approaching these situations with a negative attitude, a hidden motive, or an unwillingness to seek understanding - which only creates further conflict!
By being introspective, and managing our mind ahead of time, we can prepare ourselves for these tough communication exchanges. When we approach difficult conversations with clarity and curiosity and compassion, we ultimately achieve better outcomes.
On this week's episode of Daring DVM, I will be building on last week's discussion by taking a look at the art of preparing for a difficult conversation and how to review the conversation after the fact.
I will walk you through a framework to get clear on your intentions, cultivate a solution-focused mindset, help you regulate yourself, and show up as somebody who can raise their concerns and initiate challenging discussions with precision, goodwill and compassion.

Have you ever avoided having a difficult conversation with a friend or colleague or family member?
If you have, you might already know how harmful it can be, to both you, and the relationship with the other person, and sometimes even to the other person themself.
Whether it's a small annoyance or a major problem, leaving something unaddressed can breed resentment and eventually cause the relationship to fail. And beyond this affecting you on a personal level, when you avoid addressing difficult conversations it can also lead to societal and even global implications.
Daunting as it can be, the ability to engage in healthy communication exchanges is crucial to making a difference in your personal life and the world at large.

To further our deep dive into “How to Not Take Sh*t Personally”, this week we are exploring what to do (and NOT do) when someone haaates you!
Most of us have experienced hate in our lives to some degree. It can affect our professional lives and our personal lives. We can experience hate in our immediate circle of family and friends, at our job, or in our wider social groups and communities. And hate can also be found both online and offline.
Golly! So, what are we supposed to do!?

In this episode I’ll be teaching you:
WHY you experience emotional pain when somebody hates you.
And HOW to best handle the situation, in a way that supports and serves you! Spoiler alert: The answer is not to just hate the hater!

When someone hates you, it’s not actually about you, and…
Haters’ gonna hate.

Because when we do these things (avoid, resist, react), our negativity actually becomes all-consuming and we fall out of alignment with ourselves!

Dare to Dream

Dr. Amy Grimm is a veterinarian, certified life coach, anti-burnout advocate and founder of Daring DVM Coaching and host of the Daring DVM Podcast. She is on a mission to reshape mental health in the veterinary field by inspiring others and teaching them how to create a healthy mindset and become resilient AF. 

She has served in industry, public health, research, private practice, and was a Medical Director of a companion animal hospital for several years, before making the leap into entrepreneurship and coaching.

It was through her own struggles with burnout and life-work balance that Dr. Amy discovered coaching and realized the profound positive effects in her own life. Her own transformation inspired her to become a coach herself, so that she could help others who are struggling, just like she once was.

Today she coaches busy, burned-out professionals and helps them transform their lives and fall in love with their careers again. She also still does the doctory things she loves by providing HVHQSN and surgical relief services. Dr. Amy and her fiancé live in Grass Valley, CA. They enjoy everything outdoorsy, including backpacking, bike-packing, peak-bagging, running ultras, and racing on their tandem mountain bike. They share their home with their derpy Catahoula-Aussie-mix, Jake, and elderly entitled Pug, Berkels.
